Some students really do need to do away with this sort of “Messiah or bust” type of expectation with their voice teachers and learn to be more realistic about the scope of the working relationship. Teachers can also get better at referring their students to other services, e.g. coaches and mentors, for personal and business development beyond what their studio should provide. We need to do away with the normalized mutual codependency between too many students who treat their voice teachers like surrogate parents and teachers who treat their students like children they don’t want to lose!
This is equally applicable to even non-singers. There are teachers in every profession who are really skilled at taking away the joy. Finding those who do not is a joy!

Well-said. A lot of singers need to keep their circle of trusted advisors small.
